Penn State Celebrates National Gaming Day
Students and others can join the University Libraries in celebrating National Gaming in Libraries Day from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday, April 18, with a gaming session in the student lounge, Pattee Library central, lower level. The session will feature games from PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii and Xbox360. Among the offerings: “Halo 3,” “Guitar Hero 3,” “Wii Sports” and many more. Students also will have a chance to find out about available gaming resources in the Libraries and chat with representatives from Penn State’s Educational Gaming Commons about the University’s gaming initiatives.
“Due to the popularity of gaming as a medium, the Libraries have been exploring ways to use it as a means to bring students in and tell them about Penn State’s connection to gaming,” said Andrew Calvin, database specialist in the University Libraries. “The idea was generated from an ALA (American Library Association) poster for National Gaming in Libraries Day, though we had previously been hoping to hold an event and this provided the perfect opportunity to have one.
“This event is just the kick-off to what we hope is an ongoing gaming focus at the Libraries. Both the Educational Gaming Commons and the Libraries are planning more gaming events in the future.”
The event is sponsored by the University Libraries and the Educational Gaming Commons (http://ets.tlt.psu.edu/gaming/). For information, contact Andrew Calvin at arc143@psu.edu or (814) 863-7083. – Source: By www.psu.edu
